SERMON/HOMILY FOR 6TH TUESDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B

SERMON/HOMILY FOR 6TH TUESDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: OUR CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER!

BY: Fr. Benedict AGBO

Act 16: 22 – 34, Jn 16: 5 – 11

In a country like Nigeria where the entire Security apparachitks have failed us; where Christians are being disarmed, kidnapped and molested everyday, where farmers are being dislocated from their natural homes for the interest of cows, where people are dislicenced from legitimate arms but Fulani herdsmen are allowed to carry theirs for the protection of their cows, today’s 1st reading becomes consoling. It is not the 1st time in history for the government to give orders for Christians to be beaten with rods and jailed. But what is important is: What are they doing when this is happening? Playing or praying? Paul and Silas kept awake at midnight praying and singing hymns to God. The conversion of the jailer and his household became the high point of today’s narrative. The jailer realized that the baptism in the Spirit is a deeper source of security than what he had before.

Jesus promised us: If I go, I will send you an advocate, the Holy Spirit. We need this Senior advocate in Nigeria today even as we suffer under a STATE CAPTURE by people we never voted for. When he comes, he will show Nigerians how wrong it was about sin, corruption, examination malpractice, election rigging, etc. When he comes, he will say who is right between Christians and Muslims; between Fulanis in Nigeria and the Indigenous Nationalities – who is the Messiah between Christ and Mohammed. When he comes, he will convince us that there will be a final judgment for all our actions and inactions; and that some will go to heaven and many will go to hell. We need to get closer to the Holy Spirit now more than ever in Nigeria as the ugly clouds are gathering. Friends, Islamization is very near us but many don’t hear the drumbeats! May God help us
