FRIDAY HOMILY FOR 5TH DAY WITHIN CHRISTMAS OCTAVE [YEAR B]

HOMILY: 2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER (DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY) YEAR B

FRIDAY HOMILY FOR 5TH DAY WITHIN CHRISTMAS OCTAVE [YEAR B]

THEME: Do we know God?

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

1Jn.2:3-11; Luke 2:22-35

There’s so much hate in the world today; no much love lost between family members, relatives, friends and neighbours (take the violent killings in many parts of Nigeria for instance). We know that we must love God and neighbour. But reality isn’t always a mirror of our beliefs. That’s why we can be so religious and yet have little connection with God and his word. This is tragic. We do not lack prophets, preachers, priests and seers. As it is, we already have prophecies for 2024 from ‘top’ men of God in Nigeria. What we do not yet have are many persons willing to make the much needed positive change.

Can we still have prophets as devout and committed as Simeon? When this holy man of God took the child Jesus in his arms he knew he had set eyes upon the salvation of all nations; Jews as well as Gentiles, pagans as well as the Israelites. He also knew that the child would effect changes so drastic that many will rise and fall, and he would be rejected. God sees the secrets of our hearts. Friends, we cannot claim to know God and remain in our comfort zones of sin. Knowing God means taking a decision to love one another; it means moving past our differences and doing the best we can each day, trusting in God’s grace. It means letting go of darkness, and letting Christ’s light take charge.

Good morning dear. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.
