HOMILY FOR 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY FOR 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: “HE THEN OPENED THEIR EYES TO UNDERSTAND THE SCRIPTURES”

BY: FR. CAJETAN ANYANWU

This is the 3rd Sunday of Easter. Jesus is still appearing to his disciples and to all of us. Those with inner spiritual eyes have seen him. While some others are still in doubt. To those who believe, he has Risen and we have seen him in the breaking of the Eucharistic Bread. He says to all, “Peace be with you” (Lk. 24:35-48). Without peace of mind it will be difficult to feel his presence when he appears. Only those who live in peace with one another will notice his presence among them.

Those who have no peace are groping in the dark. Jesus is the Light of all nations. His presence illuminates every nook and corner of our hearts. Most of those who do not believe in him are doing so in ignorance. This was why Peter said to the people: “it is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, who has glorified his servant Jesus “(Act.3:13-15.17-19). If you have faith, you will surely read and understand the Scriptures. This understanding will motivate you to bear witness to Christ as the Risen Lord.

In bearing witness to Christ, St. John says: “I am writing this, my children to stop you sinning; but if anyone should sin, we have our advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, who is just” (1Jn. 2:1-5). Those who love God must keep his commandments. But if we fall short of this, we must rise and call on our advocate to help us. We bear witness to Christ by obeying God’s commands so that his love comes to perfection in us. May the joy of Easter fill our hearts amen. Happy Sunday.
