THURSDAY HOMILY FOR 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT – YEAR B (St Ambrose, Bishop, Doctor)
THEME: “Don’t just say Lord, Lord!”
By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Isaiah 26:1-6; Matt.7:21,24-27
Doing God’s will is not just about shouting and dancing in His presence. It’s also about taking His face into the market place, the streets, the villages, the offices… It’s about becoming a visible ‘advert’ for God. Acting on the word of God provides a ‘rock solid’ foundation for the sensible man. It is foolishness to hear the word of God without making efforts to live it. When the rains come, when the floods rise and the storms blow, only the house built on rock will stand.

Friends, we have a perfect example in St Ambrose. He who used to be a layman was baptised, ordained, and installed Bishop of Milan within a week, due to his intervention in the conflict between Catholics and Arians. He was so intelligent and scholarly that he impressed Augustine to conversion. He was a true Shepherd who gave all his money and vast lands to the poor. He also expended his strength writing and resolving many conflicts within and outside the Church. For him, Christianity meant much more than hearsay and lip service.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
