My Morning Minute With Jesus
The same Spirit, who was there at the birth and baptism that marked the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, was there for the birth and beginning of the Church’s ministry.

We receive that same Spirit today at Baptism and Confirmation, particularly, and generally, in every sacramental and prayer encounter. The Spirit is given to us by the Father and the Son to be our advocate, protector, defender, co-witness, teacher, enlightener, guide, guard, empowerment, animator, companion, and much more. Life without the Holy Spirit is empty and futile and at best submitted to the forces of sin articulated by St. Paul in the second reading. Our openness to the Holy Spirit invites to live under the rule of the Spirit and manifest the great gifts listed by Paul: love, joy, peace, patience, etc. Such submission to the Holy Spirit is the mark of our belonging to Christ. And since the Spirit’s presence cannot be hidden, just as is manifested at Pentecost, we must allow God’s Spirit in us bear fruits of life through spiritual growth and Christian witness, as we join the universal language of love and humility, with which God replaced the human pride that scattered the one conceited language of humanity in Babel. Through us, may the Holy Spirit inspire love, unity, and peace in our families, church and communities. This would be possible if only we continue to cultivate a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit, making daily conversations with the Spirit a way of living.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faith; and kindle in them the fire of your love. Amen.
