6TH MONDAY HOMILY OF EASTER – YEAR B

6TH MONDAY HOMILY OF EASTER – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: THE ADVOCATE

BY: Bishop Anthony Ewherido

“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send you from the Father…”

Acts 16:11-15; Psalm 149:1-6, 9; John 15:26–16:4

Today, Jesus introduces the special gift that he and the Father will give his disciples. The two identifications of that gift, Advocate and Spirit of truth, are followed by his description of the travails, exclusions, persecutions and martyrdom, that his disciples would endure for the sake of the gospel and his Name.

The two identifications serve as reassurances to the disciples that they would not be alone in their sufferings. The Holy Spirit would confirm their witness and be their advocate through these tough times. The Holy Spirit would direct and protect them despite the hardships they endure for the sake of the Name; and become source of encouragement and strength to them. Propelled by the Spirit, we must all sustain the witness of truth in our times, with so much falsehood peddled on a daily basis on different levels. As we do that, our mission, like Paul’s, is to make Jesus feel at home in every home and with every person through our witness of faith and lives of love. His love is indiscriminate and unpretentious. He has given us the mandate to manifest it as such.

Lord, fill us and our world with your Spirit and Love. Amen.
