SUNDAY HOMILY FOR 7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B

SUNDAY HOMILY FOR 7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: “CONSECRATE THEM IN THE TRUTH”

BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu

This is the 7th Sunday of Easter. Last Thursday the Church celebrated the Ascension of the Lord Jesus into heaven. He is seated at God’s right hand to intercede for us. He prayed for us before ascending into heavenly glory. He asked the Father to Consecrate us in the truth (cf. Jn. 17:11-19). This truth shall set us free from sin and death. A consecrated person is one dedicated to God in a special way. We have become one with Christ through our consecration to God the Father.

Jesus prayed for us to be united as one people. “Holy Father, keep those you have given me true to your name, so that they may be one like us”. This prayer motivated the apostles to fill the gap created by Judas Iscariot the betrayer. ” In the Book of Psalms it says: Let someone take his office” (Acts. 1:15-17ff). The lot fell to Mathias and he was listed as one of the twelve apostles.

All these events took place to manifest God’s love for us in Christ. Every event in the ministry of Jesus proved his love for us. He was born for this, he suffered for this, he died and was buried for this and he ascended into heaven for this love. St. John reminds us of this love when he writes. “My dear people, since God has loved us so much, we too should love one another” (1Jn. 4:11-16). May this love of God in us bring peace and justice to this world, amen. Happy Sunday!
