HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY – YEAR B (Feast of St John, Apost., Evang.)
HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY – YEAR B (Feast of St John, Apost., Evang.)
THEME: The testimony of an eye witness!
BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
1 John 1:1-4; John 20:2-8
John the Evangelist, the disciple Jesus loved (in John’s gospel), was one of the sons of Zebedee who Jesus nicknamed sons of thunder. He was practically present at all the important events of Jesus’ life – from the transfiguration to the crucifixion, and even at the tomb after the resurrection. It was to him that the Virgin Mary was entrusted at the foot of the cross. Legend has it that John survived Martyrdom and later died of natural causes. He is believed to have written John’s gospel, the three epistles of John and the book of Revelations.

Friends, the testimony of an eye witness is always different. John speaks to us today as one who heard, saw, observed and touched. He speaks as an eye witness to life made visible in Jesus Christ. When we read through the events of Jesus’s life, we realise that what we read is God’s word, living and true. Not some human fabrication. For this Word, many gave up their lives. For this Word, many made decisions that changed their lives forever. What about us? Let us hasten with zeal towards Jesus Christ; let us believe in our hearts that he is with us, and not even death can stop him, for he is the One who died and rose.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
