HOMILY FOR TUESDAY 4TH WEEK IN LENT – YEAR B

HOMILY FOR THE  2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY 4TH WEEK IN LENT – YEAR B

THEME: TRUE LIVING WATER

BY: Bishop Gerald M Musa

Holy men spoke of water in symbolic and profound ways. Water is also associated with healing. St. Louis de Montfort tells us, “God is a spring of living water which flows unceasingly into the hearts of those who pray.” The prophet Ezekiel speaks of water flowing from the temple which feeds trees, making them provide food and keeping their leaves and fruits ever fresh.

The Gospel mentions another water in Jerusalem in a pool called Bethzatha where Jesus healed a man who was sick for 38 years. Jesus came and asked him if he wanted to be healed. He answered, “There is no one to help me…” (John 5:7). Jesus healed him, and demonstrated greater power than the water at Bethzatha because He is the Living Water. The healing water which prophet Ezekiel speaks about is a prophecy of the Living Water of baptism that communicates the life of God.

It is the water from the side of Jesus which cleanses sin. More still, the water flowing from the temple signifies the outpouring of God’s grace in our lives, enabling us to be fruitful, strong and fresh in the spirit. Like this sick man, there are people who are critically sick and weak and have no one to help them. Can we imitate Jesus, in this season of Lent by being missionaries of God’s mercy through helping the needy and introducing them to Jesus, the Living Water?

EZEKIEL 47:1-9,12; JOHN 5:1-16; TUESDAY, 4TH LENT.
