HOMILY: 5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: “WHOEVER REMAINS IN ME, WITH ME IN HIM, BEARS MUCH FRUIT”

This is the 5th Sunday of Easter. The disciples are going around teaching fearlessly in the name of the risen Lord. Their testimony is now making much impact on the people and many converts are being added to their number. Saul has now become an instrument at hand for the Lord (cf. Act. 9;26-31).. Wonders shall never end. Saul has become a true witness to Christ. He has encountered the Lord and changed his ways. This “U” turn made by Saul should inspire the terrorists of our time to repent and be saved. May your love be upon us O Lord!
For this reason, St. John writes: “My children, our love is not to be just words or mere talk, but something real and active” (1Jn. 3:18-24). The love of God has gathered us together. We have one Father who cares for us all. Our differences should be easily resolved because we share a common inheritance. Heaven is our goal and anyone who misses heaven is a great loss for all believers. Let your love for God abs fellow human beings be genuine.

In this sense we hear Jesus telling us: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that .bears no furit he cuts away” (Jn. 15:1-8). God is delighted when we show others the right path. We are the branches of the tree of life. Any branch that bears no good fruit in time shall be cut off from the main tree. This means that when we become unproductive in our faith, we cut ourselves off from the mercy of God. You are called to bear good fruit that lasts forever. May your love be upon us Oh! Lord as we place all our hope in you, amen. Happy Sunday.
