HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY 4TH WEEK OF LENT – YEAR B

HOMILY FOR THE  2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY 4TH WEEK OF LENT – YEAR B

THEME: The hour is here already!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Is.49:8-15; John 5:17-30

Both readings today make reference to a specific time – the day of salvation in the first reading, and the hour that has already come in the gospel. What do these mean? Isaiah proclaims that the Lord will ask prisoners out of prison, while those in darkness will show themselves. Jesus says that the dead will hear His voice and live…

Friends, there is a specific sense in which the day of salvation mentioned here, also refers to the coming of Jesus. But Jesus says “the hour will come… and then, ‘in fact, it is here already…” This implies that the hour of salvation is here and now; which is why we need to turn away from darkness, listen to God’s voice and be renewed; and it is also futuristic, which is why Jesus says that the hour will come when those who did good will rise again to life… This refers to the time of judgment. We must therefore embrace God’s salvation here and now, as we hope for our home in heaven.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead!
