YEAR II: HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 33RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME.
THEME: God’s revelation of Himself.
BY: Fr Francis Onwunali.
The readings of today highlight that God’s revelation of Himself came to completion in Christ Jesus. In Him is revealed God’s plan for humanity.
In the first reading of today from the Book of Revelation (Rev 5: 1-10), Jesus, the Lion and at the same time the Lamb, was the only one worthy to open the seals of the scroll, the book of life. All this because of His blood sacrificed for our salvation.
Jesus Christ, as He drew near Jerusalem in the gospel (Luke 19: 41-44), wept for her because of the impending destruction coming upon Jerusalem. The dwelling place of God; the abode of peace is to be destroyed due to defiance from its inhabitants, because the inhabitants did not “know the things that make for peace (Lk 19: 42).

Dear friends, our configuration to Christ through baptism has made us Temples of God where the Holy Spirit dwells (1 Cor 6: 19). Like the heavenly host before the Throne, our lives should be full of praises to the One who has made His home in us and continues to live in us through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. It is to be kept holy and not to be destroyed by our sinfulness. Think of the strongest feelings you do have whenever you are conscious of God’s presence in you.
I pray as we journey in life today, that no action of ours be in defiance to God’s love for us. May praises be always on our lips and in our hearts (Ps. 149). May we experience God’s visitation in our lives today. Have a visitation-full day!
