SATURDAY 3RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – HOMILY/YR B

THEME: Cast me not away O Lord!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

2 Sam.12:1-7a, 10-17; Ps. 51:12-17; Mark 4:35-41

Sometimes it’s easier to take from the other person than to reduce our reserves. Why do the rich strive to get richer, even at the expense of the poor? The man who has one house would rather have four. Human wants are insatiable. But no matter how much we WANT, we really would never NEED all the things we want. Take David for instance. He took the one wife of Uriah, while he had his own many wives. This greedy attitude can lead us to death; physically and spiritually.

But David realised he was wrong, and as soon as Nathan rebuked him, he was sincerely sorry. He began to fast and pray, and he pleaded for the life of his child. Friends, he did not want to become an ‘outcast’ in God’s sight. Like David, we must get down on our knees when we’re wrong and plead to God for mercy. We must go to confession and beg God for pardon for the many times we’ve taken that which is not ours because we’re more powerful or more privileged. We must strive to mend hearts we’ve broken, wipe faces we’ve filled with tears, repair lives we’ve destroyed and seek reconciliation with those from whom we’ve become estranged. And we can be sure that Jesus will calm the storms of sin in our lives and offer us a fresh start!

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
