HOMILY THEME: DO YOU HAVE A RIPPLE EFFECT?

Acts 15:1-6; John 15:1-8
When a little stone is thrown into a body of water, it causes ripples. Even though the stone is small, the ripple effects go far and wide. In the first reading, Paul and Barnabas continue their missionary work, and when the problem of circumcision of converts arose, they were sent to Jerusalem to seek clarification. Their ministry had ripple effects on the people, because they were grafted onto Jesus the Vine.

Friends, Jesus says that cut off from him we can do nothing. Look around you. Is there anything in you or in me that brings about a positive change in our immediate environments? If not, we’re not well grafted to Jesus Christ. That’s why we’re not causing positive ripples around us. Let us make efforts to do something about this. As we celebrate worker’s day today, let us reflect on the dignity of labour and the example of St. Joseph, who had to provide daily for his family with hard manual labour. Let us also reflect on the power in the rosary and the special Marian devotions held in the Catholic Church during this month of May.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for this new day and this new month. May I always appreciate the dignity of labour, never attempting to ‘cut corners’ or seek fast gains. May I not be too lazy to say the rosary daily, especially during this month of May, and may my diligence lead to greater spiritual works, Amen.
