REFLECTION FOR FRIDAY OF THE 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I.

THEME: YIELDING TO FAITH AND ACKNOWLEDGING GOD.

BY: Fr Francis Onwunali.

“Sir, if you want to, you can cure me. Jesus stretched out His hand, touched him, and said, “Of course I want to!” Be cured!” The readings of today dwell on yielding to faith and acknowledging God’s goodness in thanksgiving.

The first reading (Gen 17: 1, 9-10, 15-22) presents to us the covenantal relationship that existed between God and Abraham, that even at an impossible age of fecundity – Abraham at one hundred years and Sarah at ninety years – God still held unto His promise of giving them Isaac to continue their lineage. God, however, demanded that Abraham walk in His presence and be blameless. Do you believe that God can write perfectly on the crooked lines of your life? As was with Abraham, God wants us to walk confidently in His presence and be blameless.

RELATED: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME.

In the gospel (Matt. 8: 1-4), Jesus heals the leper who approached Him with an expectant faith and orders him to present himself to the priest with an offering as evidence of his cleansing.

Dear friends, when we come to God with expectant faith in humility, remarkable and unthinkable things do follow. The leper in Jewish custom is untouchable, else one risks defilement, but Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, healing him both physically and spiritually. Every situation is surmountable with an expectant faith. Have you been presenting your situation with an expectant faith in humility and confidence?

I pray as we journey in life today, we will not neglect the gift of faith God has given to us, but unwaveringly come to God expecting the remarkable and the unthinkable from God according to God’s will. May we testify to God’s goodness in our lives. Have a faith-full day!
