MONDAY HOMILY, 30TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME  (YEAR A )

THEME: God’s Children!

By; Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Rom.8:12-17;

Luke 13:10-17

How does it happen that we’re able to break away from sin and the dictates of the world? How is it that we overcome temptations of sexual immorality, of greed, of covetousness, and of pride? It is because we have been adopted by God. Being God’s adopted children, we have therefore received power to break the shackles of our former slavery to sin and death. It is this spirit that enables us cry “Abba Father”. Through him, we have become co-heirs with Christ; worthy citizens of heaven.

Friends, the spirit of God in us must move us to have compassion on others, just like Jesus, who in the gospel reading of today, made a decision to heal a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit for eighteen years. Jesus knew the books prevented him from such action on the Sabbath, as the leader of the synagogue quickly pointed out. But in that one gesture, he taught us that genuine human need always comes before rules. May we find the courage to stand up for others in the face of opposition, and may we by God’s grace break free from our former sinful selves, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead!
