MONDAY HOMILY, 2ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME {YEAR B}

THEME: Obedience is better than sacrifice!

I Sam.15:16-23; Mark 2:18-22

The soldiers had clear instructions – negotiate with the terrorists and rescue the hostages. On getting there however, they thought it best to unleash the wrath of the military on the terrorists. Many of the hostages died as a result. Their superior officer was displeased and had them court martialed. They should have simply followed instructions and did as they were told…

Friends, Saul lost his anointing today because he felt it would be better to take some of the spoils God had rejected and offer them back to God as sacrifice – wrong move! We cannot be wiser than God. Indeed there’s time for everything. At one time, we might be required to eat and be merry, but at other times, we need not be told that fasting and prayers should be foremost. Knowing God’s will therefore is key, that we may not out of spiritual arrogance, replace His will with ours. Do we need to lose old habits and gain new ones for God’s sake? Let’s get to it by his grace.
