2ND SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

5TH SUNDAY HOMILY, LENT/YEAR B

2ND SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR B

THEME: Bend to God’s will!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

1 Sam.3:3-10,19; 1Cor.6:13-15,17-20; John 1:35-42

That morning, the artist took his pencil and attempted to draw a face. But each time he put pencil to canvas, it struggled fiercely with him. It was strange. Again he tried, but again, the pencil seemed to have a mind of its own. After several attempts, the artist finally gave up, totally frustrated. The result was a meaningless scribble. Obedience is perhaps the most difficult precept to practice. Yet, we have ample evidence of it in today’s readings. Samuel first listened to Eli, and consequently to God. Andrew listened first to John, and then to Jesus…

Friends, each time we insist on our own way and will, we become like pencils struggling with the artist; like clay struggling with the Potter. This is why we sometimes spiral out of control. We cannot continue to wallow in immorality when our bodies are for God. We cannot pay less attention to the things of God, and yet expect to hear his voice when he calls. Like Andrew therefore, we must first stay with Jesus, in order to understand his will, then we must move out to invite others to come see and experience what we have experienced. Otherwise, we’ll end up drowning out God’s voice in the din of our many distractions!

Good morning dear. Happy Second Sunday of the year!
