Be on your guard

Friday Homily: Twenty-Eight Week in Ordinary Time, Year I.

By Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Theme: Be on your guard against Hypocrisy!
Rom.4:1-8; Luke 12:1-7

One of the greatest problems of the world today is hypocrites and hypocrisy. Yes! The Lord Jesus today warns his disciples against the yeast of the Pharisees; their hypocrisy. When we pretend to be virtuous, having innumerable virtues and principles, when in reality we’re corrupt; when we condemn evil from the rooftops, but harbour an empire of evil and wrongdoing; when we claim to be holy and spotless, when in fact we’re dirty and depraved, we’re nothing but hypocrites.

Friends, we must not fear those who can kill the body, but have no power over the soul. Truth must be told, in love and fear of God. The ‘Oga at the top’ should not dictate what comes out of your mouth no matter how much power he/she has over you. The President of the State or Bishop of your Church must not be able to influence your conscience negatively just because of the high position he wields. We have been sealed with the Holy Spirit. We must act as such. Hell may not be very populated, but you can be certain that hypocrites are all there. Lord, help us to not live lives that lie, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
