EASTER SUNDAY [HOMILY YEAR B]
HE IS RISEN INDEED! HAPPY EASTER!

Dear people of God, the Church has been busy since this week , especially within the Triduum. So also are the faithful busy with the Holy Week celebrations. I noticed an increase in the number of the faithful who were in church to take part in the activities. This is an indication that we all have received numerous blessings from God. “Count your blessings, name them one by one. And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done” (Johnson Oatman Jr. 1897).

On Holy Thursday the bishops celebrated the Chrism mass with their priests. Oils were blessed for the sick, for catechumens and for baptism. In the evening we celebrated the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood and the washing of the disciples’ feet by Christ. This showed his love for us all (Jn.13:1-15). On Good Friday we recounted the events leading to the Passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. We also venerated the cross. On Holy Saturday night the big events leading to the resurrection of Christ are celebrated. We marked service of light and renewed our baptismal vows.
Easter Sunday is the climax of all the activities we started from Ash Wednesday to this Sunday. Now we are rejoicing that the Lord is Risen indeed (Jn.20:1-9). Yes, he is Risen and we are to rise with him through a change of our attitude. We are to rise with Christ to embrace newness of life. We are Risen with him to love one another. We are Risen with him to stop hatred, wars and all evils in the world. Let the joy of the resurrection fill every heart! Amen. Happy Easter!
