33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A – HOMILY

4TH WEEK HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - YEAR B

33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A – HOMILY

THEME: Stay Awake and Sober

Fr Anthony C Ohaekwusi

Do you have that friend or relative whom you can involve in everything except financial matters? Such a person can no longer be trusted when it comes to money, because in your experience they have let you down many times. There are some friends or relatives to whom you dare not lend money because they never return it, yet they come back to borrow more, as if they have forgotten that they still owe. So many people lose another opportunity because they deliberately destroy the one they received. One man had a friend in the real estate business whom he asked to sell his property. When he noticed that he had been cheated by this friend, he could no longer recommend him to people who wanted to buy houses, because one good turn deserves another. One of the main elements that determine people’s success or failure is their attitude toward the gifts they received.

The master, who entrusted his wealth to his servants, did so in proportion to their abilities. He knew the ability of each of them, so He gave more to the one who could do more, and less to the one who could do less. God blessed each of us in unique and different ways, trusting and expecting us to use these gifts for good. But like the master of these servants, God cannot determine our attitude toward progress or how we use these gifts. Each of us is free to decide how we use the gifts we have received and our attitudes towards them. The two servants who doubled the size of their talents showed that we can achieve much when we consciously and diligently use the gifts we have received. The best way to show gratitude is to have the best of attitude towards what we have received. The servant who disappointed the master was deliberate in his bad attitude. He knew what needed to be done, but refused to do the bare minimum. He is like someone who had light, but chose to live in darkness. Like one who knows the Day of the Lord is coming like a thief and refused to stay awake, he has lost what he received. But those who appreciate and serve God with their talents will be exalted like the perfect woman who far exceeds the price of pearls.

Remain lifted and do have a great Sunday
