THEME: The rarest privilege!

Sometimes, it dawns on me that I do not fully appreciate the fact that I’m God’s child. Why else would I want to be famous, or wealthy, or raised on pedestals set by the world, when I have God for my Father? Why do I need to scurry after inordinate favours around humans who call themselves Godfathers? That I am God’s child is the rarest and greatest privilege of all. In this, I should be content.

Friends, the era of killing lambs twice a day in the temple is over. For the many of us who have gone astray severally, John points out the way to us again. He reminds us that Jesus is the only Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. John saw and testified to this. Shouldn’t our lives also bear testimony to this spotless Lamb of God? Let us visit Jesus in the Sacrament of penance today. Let us flee from lawlessness, and embrace the Lamb of God.
The Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus was established in the 15th century by Pope Callixtus III on January 14 to honour Jesus’ name and its significance. In 1721, Pope Innocent XIII extended the feast to all Catholics. It is now celebrated on January 3 in some places and on different dates in others. The feast serves as a reminder of the power and importance of Jesus’ name in the Christian faith.
