WEDNESDAY HOMILY FOR 5TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME / YEAR B

5TH SUNDAY HOMILY, LENT/YEAR B

WEDNESDAY HOMILY FOR 5TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME / YEAR B

THEME: How’s your heart?

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

I Kings 10:1-10; Mark 7:14-23

I would be totally shocked if you were to see me very early in the morning, and ask after the well-being of my heart. It’s not usual to go about asking people how their hearts are. Is it? A doctor might do that to his/her patient with blood pressure, or a weak heart. But here, I’m more interested in the spiritual cum moral state of our hearts; the manner of thoughts we harbour; thoughts that can make or mar our hearts.

Friends, in the first reading, the Queen of Sheba, having heard about the wisdom of Solomon, came all the way from her country to see Solomon and experience his wisdom for herself. She had a good heart that sought wisdom to get better; and she wasn’t disappointed. But the people Jesus addressed in the gospel reading today lacked wisdom because of the condition of their hearts. They listened to the wisdom of Jesus, and yet rejected him. We must therefore rid our hearts of the fruits of evil intentions like fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, and folly, that our mouths may utter wisdom and our hearts, love.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
