LUKE 12:39-48;
A preacher says, “Be ready for the sudden surprise visits of God. A ready person never needs to get ready.” A school inspector noticed messy classrooms and challenged students to keep their desks tidy, promising a reward for the neatest desk. Initially, students were enthusiastic, but many lost interest over time, except for one girl who diligently maintained her desk. When the inspector returned unannounced, he found her desk immaculate, rewarding her with cash and gifts.

The story underscores the importance of consistent effort and faith in the face of uncertainty, highlighting how unwavering dedication reaps rewards. The students’ initial excitement and subsequent coldness reflect how people often start a task with enthusiasm but may lose focus over time. The one girl who maintained her diligence despite mockery symbolizes unwavering faith and dedication. When the unexpected moment arrived, her readiness and faithfulness were rewarded.
Likewise, Jesus expects his followers to be diligent and faithful in doing their tasks and keeping their hearts clean as they expect his second coming. He says: “The Son of Man will come when you least expect him” (Luke 12:46). He describes a faithful and wise steward as one who remains faithful in keeping the Master’s instruction and is never taken unawares. Therefore, a faithful disciple of Christ is never scared by end-time prophecies. Are we ready to give Him a good account of our stewardship when He returns?
