THEME: Do not deny Jesus Christ!

1Jn.2:22-28; Jn.1:19-28

The one who denies Jesus Christ is a liar and an Antichrist. So says the first reading of today. We are not innocent of this charge, for we sometimes, in our actions, words and inactions, deny Jesus Christ. The challenge today therefore is to keep our faith alive, without getting distracted. Sometimes, we think the mighty works God works through us is by our own power, and we attempt to claim God’s glory. When John the Baptist was asked about his identity, he did not deny Jesus. He rather pointed him out.

ALSO RECOMMENDED: THURSDAY HOMILY FOR 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A (Dedication of St. John Lateran Basilica)

One thing that’s common to the two great Saints we celebrate today is their love for God and knowledge about the things of heaven. Both of them did not project themselves, but God in the manner of their lives and mission. Basil fought so hard against the Arians and wrote many works, including the Monastic rule used by many monks in the East till today. Gregory on the other hand travelled widely in search of knowledge. He was initially with Basil in the wilderness before he too was ordained and later made Bishop. Friends, let us join the train. May our resolutions this year include proclaiming the saving works of Jesus Christ to all those who care to listen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead. Sts. Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen, pray for us!
