Stay with your calling

Today’s Homily: Monday of the Twenty-Seventh Week in Ordinary Time. Year I.

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

THEME: Stay with your calling!

Jonah 1:1-17; 2: 1.10; Luke 10:25-37

Once in while, we must pause, and ask ourselves the reason for our existence. We were created to know, love and serve God in our neighbour. When God sent Jonah to preach to the people of Nineveh, Jonah was reluctant. But in a series of events, God persuaded him to stay true to his calling. In the same way, we all are called to be good Samaritans to one another. We must like the Samaritan in the Gospel reading, go the extra mile to help our brothers and sisters.

Friends, the Samaritan in today’s gospel reading was not ‘seen’ as a good man by any stretch of the Jews’ imagination, yet he it was who ‘went out of his way’, put his own life at risk and took care of another human being who had earlier been abandoned by a Priest and a Levite. Most times, it’s not really about knowing the law, it’s more about how much effort we make in trying to come to the rescue of those in need, even if they are our sworn enemies. Are we ready to go out of our way today to put a smile another human being’s face? May God grant us grace to put our preaching into practice. Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
