SUNDAY HOMILY – CHRIST THE KING – YEAR A
THEME: “COME, YOU WHOM MY FATHER HAS BLESSED” (CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY)
By: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu
This Sunday marks the Solemnity of Christ The Universal King . It is also the last Sunday of the Church’s year (A). It reminds us of the day when the Lord will come in glory to reward each one of us. The Universal King, will give each person his or her result sheet. Some will be taken to heaven while others may be banished into eternal darkness. Those who lived good lives will be taken care of by the Lord himself. “The Lord says this: I am going to look after my flock myself and keep all of it in view” (Ezk.34:11-12ff). The King cares for all.

As the Good Shepherd, he will make sure that, not one of the flock will be missing. He will gather the flock together and carry the weak ones on his shoulders. The next step will be to take all to the Father so that God may be all in all (1Cor. 15:20-26.28). The criteria for admitting the flock into the Kingdom will be determined by good works done by each individual. It is not enough to say Lord , Lord, on the lips . Our relationship with God and our neighbor must be marked by generosity.
The King will put humanity into two groups. One on the right side the other on the left. These two groups are determined by their ways of life on earth. The Good Shepherd will tell those who lived good lives: “Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world”(Mtt. 25:31-46). While those who did wrong will be condemned and banished forever. Please examine yourself carefully and know the group you fall into. You can still join the right group if you ammend your life right now. May our King help us to be among those on his wright side, amen. Happy Sunday.
