Short homily for Wednesday of the 1st Week of Advent
Theme: Don’t Stay Hungry!
By: Rev. Fr. Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).
Homily for Wednesday December 1 2021
Is. 25:6-10a; Ps. 23:1-6; Mt. 15:29-37
Hunger isn’t a good thing for anyone. Sustained hunger can lead to a permanent state of malnutrition (ever seen those children with swollen bellies and oversized heads?). What about spiritual hunger (malnutrition)? It can give the soul Kwashiorkor. Imagine healthy bodies moving around with Kwashiorkor-ridden souls.
Friends, our readings today point to God as the one who satisfies our hunger – both physical and spiritual. He first attends to the hunger of our souls; healing the sick, strengthening the weak… Then He multiplies bread to fill our physical hunger as he did the great multitude. Even in the sight of our enemies He lays out a banquet… He knows that we need both physical and spiritual nourishment. What then is that hunger in our lives? Come to Jesus; meet Him in the sacrament of penance, in the Eucharist, in the tabernacle. He’s very close to us.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
