Short homily for Friday of the 33rd Week in Ordinary Time Cycle I

Theme: Purifying God’s sanctuary!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Homily for Friday November 19 2021

I Macc.4:36-37,52-59; Luke 19:45-48

The readings of today talk about purifying God’s sanctuary. In the first reading, Judas and his brothers, after defeating their enemies all around them, went up to Mount Zion to erect a new altar to the Lord and purify it. In like manner, Jesus goes into the temple in today’s Gospel reading, drives out those who were turning it into a market place, and reminded them that God’s house shall be a house of prayer, not a den of robbers.

Friends, our mandate today is clear. Purify God’s house! But to do this, we must begin from ourselves. St Paul tells us that we’re living stones, building up God’s house. In order to truly sanctify God’s house, we must sanctify ourselves. All attempts to do business transactions in God’s name and in God’s house must stop. False prophesies and fake miracles must stop. Worship and prayer must be sincere. And we have to strive to approach God’s sanctuary each day with holy hands. We pray for the grace to be renewed in heart and soul, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
