SATURDAY HOMILY, 1ST WEEK  IN ORDINARY TIME – YR.B

5TH SUNDAY: HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR B

SATURDAY HOMILY, 1ST WEEK  IN ORDINARY TIME – YR.B (Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

THEME: Our Master Physician!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

I Sam.9:1-4,17-19,10:1; Mark 2:13-17

When we read through scriptures, we get the impression that Jesus Christ was tempted three times only, and on one occasion. But this wasn’t the case. Being a human being like us, Jesus must have been tempted on many occasions. Think about how many times He must have been tempted to use his powers and take the easy way out. Think about how he must have handled anger, pride, jealousy, desires of the flesh and so on. This is exactly why he is our master physician. He knows us through and through.

ALSO RECOMMENDED: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY 1ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME  [YEAR B]

In today’s gospel reading, Jesus knew how much fraud Levi was exposed to in his customs duties, yet he called him. He must have known he was going to the house of a sinner, yet he went and ate and dined with him and others. The aim was to introduce light to the darkness, to bring health as a remedy to sickness. Friends, we too are called to first receive healing for our souls from Jesus, and then move around with sinners, thereby introducing some sanity into the craze of our world today. Like Mary, may we never lose hope in God’s power to bring his Word to fulfilment in our lives, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
