HOMILY: SATURDAY 2ND WEEK IN ADVENT – YEAR B

TUESDAY 3RD WEEK IN ADVENT (YEAR B) HOMILY

HOMILY: SATURDAY 2ND WEEK IN ADVENT – YEAR B

THEME: Elijah did come!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Ecclesiasticus 48:1-4,9-12; Matt.17:10-13

There are times when I remember the fierce preachers of the past. We still have a few in our generation, no doubt. Those who are unafraid to name names. Those who call a spade a spade, and a shovel a shovel. But you see, as forceful as Elijah was, there were those who still refused to bat an eyelid. As persuasive and compelling as John the Baptist was, Herod went ahead to kill him. And even though Jesus was God’s son, there were those who refused to listen to him, and those who delivered him up to death…

Friends, the problem isn’t and never will be about whether or not Elijah will return (or has already returned). When the son of man comes, will he find any faith on earth? In this question lies the problem. We have consciences; do we listen to them? How often do we strive to take faith, hope and love seriously? Have we stopped lying, stealing, fornicating and cheating? Do we recognise the face of Jesus in the midst of so much noise and self indulgence? In all this, we must not forget that the Lord’s day come. It’ll be a day of reckoning. Are we prepared for it?

Good morning dear. Have a great weekend.
