HOMILY FOR TODAY: FRIDAY 26TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY THEME: No sitting on the fence!

Bar.1:15-22; Luke 10:13-16

The young lady walked into the room with a heavy heart. She knew she was going to abort the baby. She never wanted a child in the first place; just a few minutes of intimacy. Now she was pregnant? She needed God to intervene right away. If her parents found out, they would kill her. But even as she made up her mind, she knew the baby in her womb was not at fault. She knew she didn’t have the power to give or take life… She made a decision then to do the right thing, irrespective of how the world condemns her…

Friends, most times we fall into error out of our own desires for fleeting pleasures and temporary satisfaction. In the first reading, the prophet Baruch traces a trajectory of Israel’s unfaithfulness to God. Bad things happen when all we think about is how to ‘look good’ before the world. Sometimes, being good means ‘looking bad.’ One who isn’t ready to be converted will not be converted. Jesus himself expresses his frustration at the recalcitrant attitude of the people of Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum today. We either accept Jesus or reject him. There’s no sitting on the fence.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
