HOMILY FOR THE 4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR C

THEME: “THE FATHER AND I ARE ONE”

HOMILY FOR SUNDAY MAY 8 2022

This is the 4th Sunday of Easter. The image of the Good Shepherd is revealed to us. Another strategic point is Paul’s insistence on “turning to the pagans.” For the Lord says, “I have made you a light for the nation’s, so that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth” (Acts 13:14.43-52). The Lord as the Good Shepherd cares for us all. He gives life to all creatures.

We are the flock whom the Good Shepherd leads to eternal life. As the people of God, we must also be Good Shepherds in our families and in the society. We must not be against the progress of the Good news. Like the apostles, Christians in most parts of the world are being persecuted. Jesus assures us that “God will wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Apoc.7:9.14-17).

Since we are the flock led by the Good Shepherd, we must listen to his voice. We must also know him and follow him always. He says: “The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me, … they will never be lost”(Jn. 10:27-30). Since Jesus is one with the Father, so also shall we be one with him. He says, “The Father and I are one.” We too are one with the Lord if we listen and do what he wants us to do. Happy Sunday.
