HOMILY FOR SUNDAY 26TH IN ORDINARY TIME  (YEAR A)

By: Fr. Justus

HOMILY THEME: Repentance is Humility

(a) Self-righteous is pride. This characterized chiefly the attitude of the chief priests and the pharisees. They never admitted they were sinners and consequently considered it stooping too low to ask for Mercy and Forgiveness. Such people as today never go for confession.

(b) Jesus tells of the the parable of the two sons. One says “yes” to the Father but did not act accordingly. The other said “no” but had a second thought and acted to the will of the Father. The second son tells us that repentance does not stop at the profession of Faith- like the “I believe in God” and saying Yes to God. It the willingness to act according to the will of the Father. The second son acknowledged he had made a mistake and turned to do the will of the Father.

ALSO RECOMEDNDED: HOMILY FOR THE 26TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR A)

(c) The people we consider today as the worst sinners; prostitutes, Gamblers, Fraudster may find their way into heaven, if in humility they acknowledge their faults and repent, -even before the self-righteous people who extol themselves and never acknowledge that they are sinners. Pride people do not acknowledge and confess their sins. Jesus is an example for us, who humbled himself, even though He is the righteous of God, took the state of the sinful nature of man and was obedient to the will of the Father even unto death. Infact, as the Scripture says, “His food is to do the will of His Father.” May God grant us sinners the grace of repentance.
