HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 7TH WEEK OF EASTER

THEME: Preaching, even in chains!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR SATURDAY JUNE 4 2022

Acts 28:16-20.30-31, John 21:20-25

In life, we tend to get bitter in, and at some situations. Justifiably so. Imagine what Paul had been through. From the hardships and sufferings of his travels to finally ending up on trial, betrayed by Pharisees and Sadducees who used to be his own colleagues. One would expect that at this point in Paul’s life, he would have slid into depression, totally disappointed at the way things had turned out. But not Paul. While in Rome in chains, he continued preaching for two whole years.

Friends, the new trend of preachers we see today is indeed a sign of the end time. When Jesus tells us to follow him, he does not mean for us to flee from necessary suffering and hardship for the sake of God’s kingdom. He certainly does not call us to a discipleship of ease, wealth and affluence. It is for the sake of the propagation of the Word of God that we are here. If we do not do this, irrespective of whatever situations we now find ourselves, we fail to understand what it means to be true disciples.
