Homily for Friday, 7th day within the Octave of Christmas
Theme: Don’t simply mark time!
By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
Homily for Friday December 31 2021
1Jn.2:15-21; John 1:1-18
Back in the day, when we were taught how to march, there was a particular command, ‘mark time’. This command required that we kept time on the same spot. In other words, we were expected to raise our heels high up in the air and hit them with a bang on the ground, without actually making any progress. We marched, but not forwards nor backwards. It was activity without progress.
Friends, the year is ending. Yes! It’s the last day of the month of December, and 2022 begins tomorrow. The readings remind us that only those who never really belonged to God can get lost. For to everyone who believes, God gives power to be called his children. We cannot simply mark time. We ought to actually make progress. We must recognise that Jesus is the light and life of the world. Anyone who intends to reject him, cannot progress. It is from his fullness that we receive grace upon grace. May this grace accompany us into the new year, Amen.
Good morning dear. Happy last day of the month of December, and of the year 2021.
