HOMILY FOR CHRISTMAS, SOLEMNITY YEAR A.
THEME: “THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH”
BY: Rev. Fr. Justin Chima Obijuru.
Christmas is a festive season of joy. Christians all over the world rejoice at the openness of God to identify Himself with His creatures. The mystery of God becoming man is an issue worth pondering over. God’s plan has been brought to a fulfillment. It’s like achieving a project of creating a human robot. It worked! That is the joy! No wonder the Angels were captured rejoicing and telling their tales to the shepherds as they watched over their sheep at night. Today is born for you the Savior of the World!
God enters our world to identify with us humans. When one puts himself into your shoes, it shows that such a person has your interest at heart. God’s compassionate heart is a great disposition for openness to humans. The channel of such Grace is the Blessed Virgin, who accepted the message of the Angel. The Angel greeted her, “Hail, Full of Grace”. Such recognition shows the height of God’s regard for humans. It is an invitation for rejoicing, Elizabeth proclaimed John’s leap in her womb. A leap of joy is manifold in this celebration.
RELATED: HOMILY FOR CHRISTMAS DAY YEAR A
As the plan of God brought into fruition, Christmas is a dynamic festival. It must be lively and energetic because our lives have been elevated. We must become live givers. We must promote joy wherever we find ourselves.
A caveat is that Jesus is the reason for the season. You are not the reason for the season; as such, you cannot be sophisticated more than the Chief Celebrant. However, we rejoice that God has found favor with one of us. One must cut his coat according to his size. One must not kill himself in order to celebrate Christmas. It must motivate us to reconcile with others. This is a great gift that pleases God.
With the Angels, let us rejoice and be glad, for today is born for us the Savior of the World!
Merry Christmas to you all!
