TO BE BORN”

Homily for Saturday December 25 2021

his night all over the world, songs of gladness shall resound. The entire human grace shall experience the wonders of our redemption through the birth of Jesus Christ. The vigil mass of Christmas ushers in Christmas Day. How happy are we to be redeemed by the Son of God born of the Virgin Mary? Thus, “the people that walked in darkness has seen a great light. He is the Wonder-Counsellor, Mighty-God, Ethernal- Father, Prince of Peace” (Is.9:1-7).

As we read the Gospel account of the ancestry of Jesus, we note that he was born within the historical context of the people of Israel. His ancestry traces back to Abraham and King David. Matthew’s gospel vividly highlights this ancestral lineage of Jesus (Mat. 1:1-25). The mystery of the incarnation reveals the plan of God for our salvation. “The Word took flesh and dwelt among us!”

Therefore, Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecies made to Israel about the coming of the Messiah. Another very amazing aspect is how Joseph welcomed Mary after an angel spoke to him in a dream. Mary also accepted God’s message and it worked well for her. Faith is the measure of their trust in God, for God’s grace has been revealed, and it has made salvation possible for the whole human race” (Titus 2:11-14). Let us draw strength from their strong faith and receive the blessings of Christmas. Merry Christmas all God’s children!
