FRIDAY HOMILY FOR 5TH DAY OF OCTAVE

THEME: FAITH AND OBEDIENCE

BY: FR. KARABARI PAUL

“…the parents of Jesus brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

In the Gospel of today (Luke 2:22-35), we are reminded of the importance of faith and obedience. This passage tells the story of Mary and Joseph presenting Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem. It is a beautiful reminder of the power of faith and the importance of following God’s will.

Every child is a gift from God entrusted to its parents. It is the responsibility of the parents to deliberately return to child to God through proper training and education. We must do what we have to do for our children only in accordance with God’s laws and will. We must never miss out on godly principles and training. Mary and Joseph were obedient to the law and never opposed it. They trusted in God’s plan and followed it.

In the temple, Mary and Joseph encountered Simeon. Simeon was a righteous and devout man who was waiting for the Messiah. And he saw Jesus. Special things are reserved for the righteous. Simeon desired to see Jesus before his death. Nobody should die without Christ. There is no tragedy greater than dying without Jesus.

Just like every child, the joy that came with Jesus’s birth also had its cross, for a sword was going to piece through the soul of Mary. God’s plan has its challenges. Today, modern preachers have removed cross from God’s plan and Christianity, and what we see are crises of faith everywhere. From the beginning, when the angel appeared to Mary, she had wholeheartedly accepted God’s design for her mission. No matter what would come with the child Jesus, Mary was ready to accept it. We can always be ready to accept God’s plan. GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE. May God bless you and keep you always through Christ Our Lord Amen. Good morning.
