WITH JESUS

FRIDAY HOMILY FOR THE TWENTY SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR I

By; Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

THEME: Are you with Jesus?

Joel 1:13-15,2:1-2; Luke 11:15-26

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus’ action of casting out a dumb demon didn’t seem like an amazing miracle to everyone in the crowd. There were some who accused him of being in league with Beelzebul, prince of demons. These persons somehow believed it possible that Jesus’s source of power was from the devil. But this slanderous argument against Jesus’s display of divine power and authority is dead on arrival, ‘cos a household divided against itself cannot stand.

Friends, we must understand that there will always be folks whose perceptions are so coloured by negativity, they never see anything good in any genuine human endeavour. In Jesus’s calm response to his accusers, we learn that it is normal for people to result to personal attacks when honest opposition is impossible. We also learn that the mission to advance God’s kingdom is a collective responsibility. It is either we gather with Jesus, or we end up scattering. We must choose a side. The idea is to be vigilant, knowing that an unguarded house will always be raided by the enemy. Are we with Jesus?

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.

Please say a prayer for the peace repose of Rev. Fr. Peter Ebhota Udo. May God grant him merciful judgment, and grant him eternal rest in peace, Amen.
