FRIDAY HOMILY FOR 30TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME , YEAR A (St Martin de Porres, Rel.)
THEME: About human compassion!
By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
Rom.9:1-15; Luke 14:1-6
Human beings are always too concerned about ‘externals’. We look at appearances and conclude that some are sinners while others are saints; and we’re very often wrong in our presumptions. Then we obey human laws so much that we forget the human beings for which these laws were made. Why were the Lawyers and Pharisees uncomfortable that Jesus healed someone on the Sabbath?

Friends, we do not need to be wealthy to put a smile on another’s face. A kind word, a helping hand, sharing in another’s pain… These are all awesome habits to cultivate. Martin de Porres had a difficult early life. He was a black ex-slave; the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman. But he found Jesus when he entered the Dominican Order as a lay brother and spent the rest of his life caring for the sick and the poor, since he was a pharmacist and a nurse. He is patron saint of those of mixed race today. Friends, has knowing Jesus made you compassionate? Has it made you see beyond the obvious, to what’s most important?
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
