Homily for Thursday December 2 2021
We live in a world where sycophancy (empty flattery), noise-making, seeking leaders, and influential people usually enjoy the company of flatterers and are unable to differentiate counterfeit associates. This is not so with God who sees the heart of everyone. It is a common error to think that praying loudly, singing eloquently, prophesying accurately, and healing mightily qualify us for automatic entry into exercises should inspire us towards total obedience to God. Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will and Presidents, attention- thrive. governors, between genuine and beautifully, and preaching heaven. All these spiritual TRUTHN LOVE of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).
Saint Faustina, in her diary, tells us, “True love of God consists in carrying out God’s will. To show God our love in what we do, all our actions, even the least, must spring from our love of God.” In short, to do God’s will is to imitate the life of Jesus whose life was dependent on doing the will of his Father. St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, a doctor of the Church wrote an epistle titled “Uniformity with God’s will” which teaches us how to suppress our wills and allow the will of God to take precedence in our lives. As we prepare for Christmas can we make more efforts to constantly listen to God’s word and do his will?
