FR. BEN’S HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 26TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: I LAY MY HAND ON MY MOUTH!

BY: Benedict Agbo (Rev Fr)

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 30 2022

*Job 38: 1 – 40: 5, Lk 10: 13 – 16.
God finally silences Job! ‘Have the gates of death been revealed to you…have you seen the gates of deep darkness?’ What do you think you know as to challenge God’s wisdom and Providence? Job says: ‘What shall I answer? I lay my hand on my mouth!

It’s better to keep quiet in matters of human and existential confusions of judgments. We don’t have the materials for jurisdiction. Only God can judge well. He alone knows the givens and takens; the inputs and outputs; the income and expenditures; the investments and the proceeds as far as Divine – human resources are concerned. In today’s gospel Jesus repudiates Chorazin and Bethsaida for lost opportunities. He knows exactly what they were given and how much is expected of them.

Looking at the Nigerian political plane I am worried about Nigeria losing another political opportunity; another opportunity to get it right. I never believed that after the 8 years disappointment with the clueless Buhari regime, that our mega parties would still be dilly dallying with old corrupt Politicians as Presidential candidates. It is worse for me to see those who should know better, fold their hands and expect miracle to fall from heaven. We are watching. God is also watching! Let me lay my hands on my mouth like Job said! May God bless you today!
