CATHOLIC HOMILY FOR 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A

BY: Fr. Justus Oruma

HOMILY THEME: Could it be I have been wasting my Time?

(a) Apart from Life, Time is the greatest gift of God to man. Everything we can do is done in time. God is so generous with His the gift of Time to us to let us achieve our end. This is seen as He calls people at every hour to engage them; in the morning, in the midday and even unto the 11th hour.

(b) Could it be that I have been whiling away my time, like the people standing idle in the market place; (Matt. 20) “gossiping and engaging in silly and idle talks”. Have I engaged myself meaningfully for the good of people (as St Paul was) and for the Kingdom of God? On what do I spend most of my time? Would the Lord also ask me today; “why have you been standing idle” ? all these years. Could I do something more meaningful than the complacency?

(c) God is willing to engage us at this hour. No time is too late for Him. He calls the young as well as the old. At every time and age, there is work to do. He calls us to repent and be better; every minute, even at the eleventh hour. It is in this engagement and willingness that we are fulfilled. He tells us therefore, “you too, go into my vineyard”. He pays us not because we have merited the Pay for a long or short time we have worked but out of His magnanimity and Love. Are you truly engaged in the work of the Lord?
