30TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – TUESDAY HOMILY (YEAR A)
THEME: WHAT’S THE KINGDOM OF GOD LIKE?
By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
Rom 8:18-25; Ps 126:1-2ab, 2cd-3, 4-5, 6 (R.v.3a); Luke 13:18-21
Think about the welcoming nature and the influence of God’s Kingdom on earth dear friends, and understand that God cannot be restricted to a particular people, or approached from just one perspective, or boxed in by certain unchanging belief systems and doctrines. In Luke’s parable of the mustard seed, Jesus does not place emphasis on the “smallness” of the mustard seed, as found in Matthew’s parallel (cf. Matt.13:31-32). The emphasis is rather on the fact that birds of the air come to shelter in its nest.

However, it’s also good to note that although the mustard seed is small, and the yeast is equally small, their effects are sure and long lasting. When we strive to be who God wants us to be, we not only become rallying points for those who may have lost their way, we also bring about the kind of positive influence that has the capacity to renew the world completely. Is our Church today a shelter for all kinds of lost souls? Do we have the kind of effect on our immediate environment that yeast has on a few measures of dough? If not, then it’s time for some reevaluation.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
