2ND SUNDAY HOMILY IN ADVENT – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: The call for Repentance

By: Fr. Justus

(a) One of features of Advent as we wait for the coming of Christ who is born to us is this call for repentance. This repentance, atonements and amendments for sins is that the centre of the preparation for the Christmas.

(b) A voice calling from the wilderness, “prepare a way for the Lord, make the paths straight. Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill be levelled, every cliff become a plateau, every escarpment a plain”. In the preparation for the coming of the Lord, what attitude must I correct, what crooked in my life must I make straight? The assurance after says thus; “then the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all humanity will see it together, for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.”

(c) To be part of the glory and joy of the season that touches the heart, to find the consolation which God gives His people, this call of John the Baptist for repentance is very important. The Advent prepares us not just for the Christmas but for the last day of our life. Stay awake!
