Tuesday of the Twenty Eight Week in Ordinary Time. Year I (Memorial of St Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr).

Tuesday of the Twenty Eight Week in Ordinary Time. Year I (Memorial of St Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr).

By;  Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).

THEME: Be not ashamed of the gospel! Rom.1:16-25; Luke 11:37-41

There used to be a program on Dstv’s Sony Max tagged “A thousand ways to die”. The ways depicted are often gruesome, and almost always out of ignorance or sheer foolishness. And they’re usually without purpose. Today, we’re not looking at these kind of deaths. We’re more interested in deaths that are deliberate and purposeful – deaths brought about by faith in God’s word, since the readings today clearly show that faith in God must be backed by action. As St Paul says in the first reading, the just man finds life through faith.

ALSO RECOMMENDED: Tuesday of the Twenty Eight Week in Ordinary Time. Year I (Memorial of St Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr).

Ignatius of Antioch was the third Bishop of Antioch, after St Peter and Evodius. After his arrest by the Romans, he was so certain about his choice to die that he begged his followers not to discourage him from being ground like wheat by the teeth of the wild animals. Think of the many holy men and women who were murdered for their faith in God. Think of the many innocent people who continue to be killed by different terror groups. These lives would be a huge waste if our goal was to remain here on earth. But as it stands, heaven is the goal, and we will continue to face death till we shall die no more. May God help us to stand firm, even in the face of deadly opposition, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. St Ignatius of Antioch, pray for Us.
