By: Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike

Homily for Sunday March 14 2021

*SCRIPTURAL TEXTS*
2 Chronicles 36:14-16.1923,
Psalm137: I -2.3.4-5.6 (R. 6a), Ephesians 2:4-10, John 3:14-21.

Child of God, do you need someone, to tell you that Jesus the only begotten Son of God, was nailed to the cross because of your sins and mine ?

Why are you still hiding your face ? Look up to Jesus on the cross and sin no more.

Beloved we are about to start the 4th Sunday of Lent. Are you still swimming in the ocean of sins? Offload your sins ; hatred, gossip, stealing, unforgiveness, cheating, fighting, killing, lies of all kinds, yahoo – yahoo frauds, abortion, prostitution, kidnapping, insulting, etc. Offload all, at the foot of the cross of Jesus and be purified forever.

*May we listen to the Gospel : (John 3:14-21)*
“At that time: Jesus said to
Nicodemus, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God.

Child of God, may l ask you, are you among those who love *Darkness* rather than *Light* ?

The shameful death Jesus underwent on the cross of Calvary is for you and me to be saved. But why are we still committing sins and evil by nailing Jesus on the cross the second time ?

The Scripture says “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

What a promise from the *MERCIFUL FATHER?* If we believe and desist from our sins, he will give us ETERNAL LIFE !

*What are the little Lenten efforts you have done during this time of Grace, to atone for your sins ?*

In the first reading we heard what happened (2 Chronicles 36:14-16.1923) that all the leading priests and people were exceedingly unfaithful, following all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted the house of the Lord which he had hallowed in Jerusalem and the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them, his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place; but they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his word, and scoffing at his prophets, till the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Lord Jesus deliver us and never allow your wrath to fall upon our generation anymore. Help us to listen to your words and respect your messengers through our PRIESTS in the Church, Amen.

*Let us pray:*
May God forgive us all our sins and iniquities, and make us to carry our daily crosses and follow him. Amen

*Happy 4th Sunday of Lent and Happy new week of looking up to Jesus on the cross the hope of our Salvation.*

Always on my knees for you in prayers.
