HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

THEME: TEMPTATION OF GREED

HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY APRIL 13 2022

Mongolians say, “Greed keeps men forever poor, even the abundance of this world will not make them rich.” We see elements of greed even in animals. One of the fastest ways of catching monkeys in some parts of Africa is using a gourd containing nuts. The gourd is made with a small hole where a monkey can insert its hand to fetch the nuts. Having fetched the nuts, it closes its hand with a tight fist which makes it impossible for the hand to come out of the gourd. The monkey usually holds on to the nuts until the hunters come to catch the monkey. A monkey often forgets that its life is more imp of greedy people who sell their conscience and soul for profit and material gains. Greed made Judas betray innocent blood and change from being a friend of Jesus into being a traitor. 30 pieces of silver were the dividend of his greed. which he sold Jesus and the equivalent amount given for the compensation of a slave’s death (Exodus 21:32). By selling Jesus he also sold his soul. Mother Theresa says, “I fear just one thing: Money! Greed was what motivated Judas to sell Jesus.” Does our love for money motivate us to sell our values and nt than the nuts. Such is the mistake was the amount for virtues?
