THEME: STATE OF READINESS
LUKE 12:35-38;
To live wisely is to strive to live with a clear conscience so that I can stand ready to face the Lord at any time. Jesus advised his disciples to live wisely: “Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks” (Luke 12:35-36).

We can gain wisdom from the words and experience of Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple and a billionaire who died at 56 after years of suffering from Pancreatic Cancer. During the Stanford University commencement address on June 12, 2005, Jobs shared: “When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: ‘If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.’
It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” How vigilant and conscious are we about Jesus’ second coming? Are we faithful in service, spiritually awake, loving and caring for one another, watching and
praying?
